Thermostatic Switch

This lil' bugger is one of the common failures on the VLX. Not so common that you'll be replacing it often, but it happens to all of us sooner or later.

To test the switch, make sure your coolant is full, and warm up the bike (a 10-15 minute ride will suffice). With the bike parked and running (tranny in neutral), run the throttle up to 1/3 to 1/2 open and hold for 3-5 minutes, if the fan does not kick in after five minutes turn the engine off and proceed to the switch test.

To test the actual switch, peel back the insulator fromthe switch and with the ignition on/engine off, run a jumper wire from the switch to a ground, try several grounds just to make sure. If the fan comes on now, you need a new switch (Honda part# 37760-MT2-003).

Drain the coolant and swap the switch, you can do this without removing the radiator.
